Less is more

One of the underlying tenants that we are applying to this Project is the concept of less is more.

What this means for the project is that we are staying focussed and saying “no to features” that aren’t absolutely necessary. And when a feature is necessary but perhaps complex or optional then we are working to hide that function until it’s needed.

Focus is hard.

As we work through the design and development phase we keep coming with all these cool new things we could do – it’s so tempting to add a new wizzy feature that we’ve seen somewhere or to expand the scope of the application.

For example – it would be really easy to create the app so that we could handle other creative, such as illustrations or photos, or ads. But then when someone thinks of us what do they think of? We’ve got to be about logos first and foremost.

Focus is power.

Same thing when thinking about the name (that’s right – no name yet). We’re struggling with a great name for the application. We’re tempted to make it more generic (like CreativeJuice) so that if we want to expand the scope later to other creative works we can. But that means that our focus is off “only logos”. We must resist!

Interface – simple is best.

I believe in white/empty space when it comes to communication, webpages, documents, ads – whatever it might be. Empty space helps us direct a users to focus on the right part of the page.

So we are working hard to hide unecessary stuff by making optional information and functionality hidden but easily accessible (ah the magic of javascript) when arriving at a page.

For example we present a total score for each logo but mousing over the score will reveal how the score is made up.
