The LogoSauce Blog
Added Email a User function
Kerry from Catalyst raised a really obvious problem.
How do I contact a designer I want to use or contract for work?
Well actually you couldn’t. Bit of an oversite on our part wouldn’t you say!
While we collect emails when you sign up for obvious reasons – we don’t want to list these on the website to avoid email spammers scraping the site. We decided that we would let the use create their own profile and we provided Textile markup integration if users wanted to include an email link if they wanted.
However it turns out that many users don’t complete the profile or can’t work out how to use Textile.
So today we added the ability for users to send other users a message.
- Find and select the profile of the person you want to contact
- Click the Email “Username” link in the Profile Header
- Enter your message in the provided message box and click “Send Email”
This will send an email to the user with your own email in the From box. Note the user can reply directly to you and your messages will not be shown on the website.
Thanks Kerry. Hope you get the designer you want.

Could be a good thing – then how do we capture replies?
Is it adding unecessary complexity to LS?
i’m not really sure how this will works, but it can be something like a hotmail account, with address book, etc.. that means messages you send and receive is private. and you keep the number of words to a certain amount, something like text message.. it may complicate things, but an option to consider i find.
I think it’s ok like this. Thanks
The email’s not a good idea if this sort of thing happens. A PM style contact would be better where you can block unwanted mail.
Also the fact that a designer is offering $35 to other designers to make them a logo is seriously bad news for designers everywhere that have had to work and build a reputation in order to make a living in this field.
This is a simple case of devaluing a profession.
Kaimeres problem is hopefully dealt with – I’ve deleted comments and logos upoaded which were definitely against the spirit of this site.
However there is not a lot we can do to prevent people abusing the site.
If anyones gets profane emails from a logosauce user using logosauce to send the email then please report it with a copy of the email and we will cancel the account of the offending users.
I trust common sense prevails.
Toon – the best way to protest this competition is just not post an entry to it. We don’t decide on the awards – I do suggest to people to make it realistic – but the best thing is for the community to voice their opinion through actions.
Surprisingly it’s not always the highest prize money that gets the best entries – it all depends on the subject matter I guess.
Does seem kinda weird though.
Digger you can (at least) to impose a minimal price like $100 or $150.
I don’t wish to protest I am just making you aware of the whole ‘logosauce is devaluing logo design’ talk that seems to be appearing all over the internet. I know this was not your intentions but it seems the competitions are getting cheaper. I can’t complain as I have sent most of these people here as I don’t offer cheap logo design and I would rather help them get what they want but it is something that will be discussed as the prices drop. I’m sure I’m not going to be the only one to mention it.
Not a protest just an opinion. I doubt I would have even have bothered mentioning it apart from the fact it is a designer asking for a design, maybe I’m the only person that find this strange.
I agree with Toon at 100% !!
Yep I understand that view and yes I do see the comments on the wider web about design competitions. However everyone participates in an open dialogue and you go into these comps with your eyes open.
I’ve considered setting a minimum – but decided against it because it would limit some competitions that do have merit. Such as charitable comps.
I think you just have to make a decision for yourself about whether the competition is worthy of entry.
p.s Actually prize money has been getting higher over time. The $35 is a bit of an aberation.
I agree with the fact of working for a non-profit organization for free but not for the others. So, setting a minimum prize for the commercial companies is the best option i think.
i don’t know i think its up to each and every one of us to value our job , in this case i think its something weird that a designer its asking for help in a design job , the best thing to do is just to not post anything , its a shame that some one is helping him I’ve seen some good work there and i don’t think its fare for graphic designers every ware , whats next i am a graphic designer asking for help with a flier come on !!!!!!!!!!
I agree with Davidoff about imposing a minimum prize for commercial companies. I have posted some entries for the polemic 35$ competition, though. BUt what’s the difference between a 35$ and 50$ competition? I love graphic design but unfortunately this is not my job, so i’m not a proffesional of graphic design. And I can tell you the most of the proffesional graphic designers would be same infuriated for a 35$ competition and a 100 or 150$ one.
Anyway its cool that we all can feel free to decide whether post and entry or not. :)
Davidoff is right.. i’m for setting a minimum prize for the commercial companies. I personally think that if you want this site to grow and have a good reputation, you need to up the standards. Nowadays, anybody can get their hand on those design software and call themself designers. You decide if you want this site to be well known for it’s quality logos/design or only the user traffic.
Users are free to decide which competition to participate, but wouldn’t be better and great if everybody finds it worth it to participate in all competitions? It would be for the better of both logosauce and the users. More logos will be uploaded, and user traffic will grow and grow. Logosauce is the one who has the power to direct and control all this. So, setting a minimum standard prize isn’t such a bad idea after all!

hehe..that’s nice.. and also, maybe in the future you guys can add something like a message inbox for all users.. then you can keep what’s related to logosauce within the site. Some people don’t really check their emails everyday :)
