Score Fix 2
Steve just posted another fix for scores (Views)
We recently changed our server to use Apaches HAProxy and this changed the way views were being counted. Now fixed and we’ve restored the view counts from the Apache logs. May not be absolutely perfect ….but looks to me like views and score are back up to where they should be.
I hope this now fixes most issues. As usual comments welcome. :-)
As a word of warning to would be web entrepreneurs – mess with your server stack with caution – as we’ve discovered, lot of little curlies that aren’t immediately apparent make life hell (for a while at least). Thanks for all the feedback, your patience and thanks steve for getting the fix done.

Wow my scores sshot up again :D yay!! Thanks DIgger and Steve!
Yeah, thanks guys! Great to have the scores back!
yes, fixes are great. on another topic, there’s quite a few closed competitions that have not awarded a winner yet. Is there any ‘deadline’ for a comp holder to declare a winner? Or any rules at all about awarding the prize money when a comp holder does not choose in a timely manner? for instance, the National speed mouse pad design contest was (I believe) started after logosauce started holding the prize money, yet that comp. ended months ago and still no winner was declared. I’m just worried that designers are getting the shaft. It’s not right for us to take the time and effort to enter comp’s and never see them closed out….sorry for my complaining, but thought it should get brought up again.
Onesummer – we’re thinking about the best approach for this. Any suggestions?
1. – notify contest holder that funds are forfeit as of such-and-such a date (CYA) 2. – reset all of that contest’s entries’ scores to 0 3. – blog an internal contest whereby existing entries are eligible to be voted on only by the Logosauce community with 1,2,or3 tomatoes without comments to each entry. Or perhaps a single vote for “favorite”. 4. – Tabulate results. 5. – Announce the winner and award the funds being held to that winner!
Also, the “PoppetUniverse” comp has disappeared from the competition board…
try searching PoppetUniverse in advanced search (competitions) – you’ll probably find it’s a Private comp.
Hi Digger, http://logosauce.com/logos/12780# Seems to have dropped of the cometition grid completely…???
Solved my own problem – seems advanced searches are case-sensitive and such…
@Digger: I participate on another contest site that is fairly strict with rules. The way it works there is 1) prize money is held by the site( like here on LS) 2) contests run typically only run 2 weeks, but can run longer if the Contest Holder pays a fee 3) The Contest Holder can opt out of choosing a winner and get 50% of his/her prize money back. The other 50% is then awarded to one of the designers that had entered the contest. The site’s staff usually votes to choose a winner. I have also seen where a CH does not choose a winner, but suggests, if he had, he would have picked so and so’s or suggests for the money to be divided between 2 designers.
I’m not saying do it necessarily just like the other site, but there’s some good stuff in it. I think the 50/50 thing is not too bad. That way both the CH and a designer get something.
One thing to consider though, is that the contest holder opts into the payout when they accept the terms and conditions of running a contest on Logosauce. So, to offer half the money back is to nullify those terms. I still feel, therefor, that in the event of the contest holder not declaring a winner, the full prize amount, which is already being held by Logosauce, should stay within the Logosauce community. (The issue might have to be revisited if prize amounts were to become significantly larger than they are now…)
Retro, I’m sure can the terms and conditions can be modified appropriately to allow the CH to get half the money back. While obviously I agree I’d rather force them to have to payout the full amount, it was just a suggestion as a way to “meet halfway” in the result of a situation when no winner is chosen. I’d rather see half the prize amount rewarded than nothing at all.
I can see Retro’s point and I can see Paul’s point. I’m not sure which way I prefer. I do however like the idea of LS choosing 2 winners to award $ to.

Thanks a bunch guys!!!
