The LogoSauce Blog
Competition #261
I just had an email from client of competition #261. She advises that she has deleted her account. She writes: “You left me no choice but to delete my account! I have chosen my winner and notified him. 16816 by rederic.”
This effectively means the competition has been also deleted.
The client had been involved in some ongoing comments and flame wars with designers which all started when a designer reported that one of the entries was or was using clipart. The client expressed concern. A second designer then commented on another design being a copy of someone elses.
The lesson here is that flame wars nearly always end in tears. If you’re going to comment try and be constructive, if critical then ensure you can back it up with facts. Remember that design is fluid, many elements are repeated, similar designs with subtle variations are still unique designs, respect your peers and their work, imitate but don’t copy.
This is the first such incident and no doubt the client will report a bad experience to her friends which is unfortunate. Presumably we all want Logosauce to continue to be a success so please consider your words before you click save.
The client did pick a winner before she deleted her account which was this entry from Redirec.

While I feel like I may have helped open a can of worms with this one, hopefully it will be a way for our newer designers to learn a little about ‘use rights’ and basically copyrights in general when using ‘clipart’ and purchased art in a logo design. There really are some great designers on here so I’m sure LS won’t be affected by this solo incident Digger.
I think that the discussion is/was necessary… but why closing the competition before it’s regular end? That’s not fair… there are a lot of people preparing great designs, variations, etc. especially for the last days of the competition… and now the end… a lot of work for nothing. :(
I agree Altamarea and explained that to the client. We declined to end early so she just deleted her account which had the same effect. She was concerned with the negative comments and publicity – which I can understand – so considered that was the only action she could take.
Clients details removed at her request.
Very childish for someone of her age
dissapointing that she couldn’t see it through to its rightful conclusion, Id have thought she owed it to everyone who toiled over her designs.
Im starting to question the value of this site….
Charming…..please give the site a chance. Digger has done a fabulous job going to bat for us designers. Unfortunately like our clients in real life, some of them online are difficult too. Don’t blame the site, blame the client.

Crikey – this was my first competition here and I seem to have chosen an …err… interesting one to start off with! Certainly the many issues raised have left me with a lot of food for thought about how we all go about our design work. The whole line between similarity and plagiarism is somewhat blurred at the best of times. Here’s hoping I don’t have to change my username to “Jonah”
