@YoungGold 119 logos already. Keep at it – you’ll get a break soon I’m sure.
Digger, how about you decide on what to do with the abandoned competitions? there’s like over 20 comps that were over in June or earlier. I know you gotta have some of that money on escrow? Very curious where this money is at; like the $500 for the pledgeforus competition…
I personally hardly ever participate anymore in on this site due to not being able to confidently expect that prize money will be payed out in a timely manner. How about a little pressure on the clients by enforcing the rules? Just a thought. I’m sure members would appreciate it.
@onesummer – All prize money is paid upfront (although not when we first started) and held in trust. We pay out when the winner is selected. When a winner is not selected we pester the client until they choose. Some however just don’t do it. The prize-money is forfeited in that instance.
Next what do do with the funds. Choose a winner and award it, allocate to every entrant in a competition with some sort of micro-payment of use to improve the site? We decided some time ago that we would not select a winner if the client has not. Several users suggested we apply the funds to development of the site and we are considering how we could make micro-payments workable.
As we are re-devloping the site from the ground up – we’ve elected to apply forfeited funds to that purpose for now. However we are looking into a micro-payment scheme for the future.
Or members could vote for a winner out of the entrants, or highest voted entrant could receive the prize money? I don’t know if dishing out a few dollars to loads of people is worth it (although it’s probably the most diplomatic option)..
@Digger, thanks so much for the explanation. I must have missed the blog posts on what to do with funds when a client does not select a winner. For me, i would rather see the micro-payment schedule and/or a single or multiple winner payed. Since that way atleast the community votes and atleast one participant in the competition sees the money. I understand itcosts $ to run the site, but isn’t that what the charge to clients when they initially post the competition is for?
@jambo don’t want to go that way. I reckon it will lead to more flame wars than anything else. @onesummer I understand your pov :-) yes admin fees help cover time and costs – but no where near break even yet. The new system will introduce some new ideas that will make the site more self funding – hence my suggestion that we’ll look at micro-payments then.
Hi to everyone. Just a thought: the funds could be distributed to all the participants of that competition in proportion to his/her tomatoes on his/her design. More points = More percentage of the winnings. For the competitors who uploaded more than 1 design, just counts the better rated. This way there is a kind of justice for all who worked. Or maybe distribute between the best 5 of the competitors or something. The point would be who is allowed to vote and how check the fairness of the votation. Greetings from Argentina.
I would like to know what file formats are given to the consumer once they select a winner. Will I be able to use the logo for a business card, and web page layout?
This is really up to the designer – but all finished logos should ideally be in a vector format with SPOT or CMYK colours specified. Our ideal would be an Adobe Illustrator .ai or .eps with a version for each major colourspace SPOT, CMYK, RGB & B&W.

Ahhhh i willl be in the list of names one of these days lol. i hope….
congrats to all that won..spend wisely.
