The Hysterical Festival (Comedy Festival in NYC)
Profile: Marianne Ways
Company:
Opens: 11 February 2008
Closes: 25 February 2008
Prize value: US$250.00
Details:
- Primary objective for the logo: To be the face of The Hysterical Festival – a new festival for women in comedy. It should be clean, smart, funny and alluring to the senses—especially that of humor.
- Target audience: Primarily Men and Women, 25-45. This includes single women and couples, as well as single gay men and lesbians drawn to alternative and movement-oriented performance festivals.
- What our target audience currently thinks: That there are not a lot of funny female comedians out there, and that being a funny female is limited to being a stand-up comedian and only those that are seen on television. That female comedians do not have the same diversity in material, media, skill as male performers.
- What we would like them to think: That the female comedic voice is varied, dynamic, smart, aware and active in all avenues of contemporary humor.
- The single most persuasive idea we can convey to bring the audience around to the desired mindset: That women are funny in a variety of different ways have been entertaining and enthralling us for centuries.
- Our project’s core Brand Values: Outspoken, original, sexy, fun, smart, bawdy, classy, ground-breaking, artful, fresh, brilliant, nightlife
- Appropriate tone and/or visual look that we can employ to convince the audience to act or think they way we’d like them to: Funny, edgy, smart, original, sexy, ground-breaking in keeping with the historical pioneering of women.
- Why our audience should believe us: History. Women have always pioneered and entertained in creative, subversive and skilled ways.

Congrats naddi, nice work.:)
Congrats! Must be rough winning on your only submission.
yay congrats naddi *<=o)
Fireball, I don’t think that they closed the competition early. They go by Aussie time, not U.S. time.
In any case, here is what I did. Even if it is too late to enter, I may as well at least get some feedback and join the fun.

I incorporated the feminine symbol into a mic, a boob, an explosion, open mouth, apple (or cherry), and the Statue of Liberty. It uses the three basic power colors in advertising. The typeface is playful and feminine, but also elegant and clean. The image is broken into thirds like the tagline, and punctuated with an exclamation mark!
I felt that by making it all inclusive, it could cover multiple themes, styles, eras, etc. The text is not particularly evocative of the 70s, but the pop art style could have easily been used during that period.
I was away for the weekend, planning to submit my entry today. Can I at least email it to someone? It’s not really a fair competition if you change the rules at the last minute.
Skitzoph—A group of us must now decide the winner, so we should have a logo chosen by the end of today.
Naddi—I’m so sorry, I’m just now seeing this. I will email LogoSauce to see why they closed our competition a day early and see if you are still able to submit.
And who is the winner?
hello there, I see that the competition closes on the 25th, but I was attempting to submit an entry today, the 24th, and it appears to be closed already. Is it too late to enter?
Hi everyone, thank you so much for your submissions so far! Here are just a few notes to help you along:
We are looking for a logo that can clearly and cleanly evoke the essence of the festival: one that is all-inclusive of female humor (stand-up comedy, sketch, solo performance, burlesque, cabaret, music, film/video, writing, etc.), as well as sexy and powerful.
Here are two ideas that we would love to see expanded upon:
- THE HYSTERICAL FESTIVAL written in an old-timey, sexy Victorian font with a circus vibe—elements that indicate “funny women performing here” (e.g. legs doing a kickline or a pair of lips, etc.) - A simple 70’s-esque graphic (maybe neon?) of a microphone (on or off a stand) on one end with its mic cord spelling out THE HYSTERICAL FESTIVAL. This graphic could incorporate some other element to indicate that the performers will be female (Pair of lips?)
Some things that we would like to avoid:
- References to clowns or women being clowns - References about defeating men or putting men down

Hey guys you need to keep an eye on the time left to go for comps. We are indeed in New Zealand which is GMT -12 hours.
