The Brief
I am wanting to re-do my logo and brand to better reflect me and my style. I’m a photographer. Mostly weddings. My company name is The Memory Journalists. I will be completely re-doing my website, all ad material, stationery, image watermarks, etc. based on this new brand design. I had at one time considered changing the name since I felt it was a bit boring, but the name fits exactly what I do. I journalize memories. I had polled my existing clients and 100% voted to keep the name as it was. My existing logo is round and has our initials MJ contained within the circle (of a camera lens). Existing website is www.memoryjournalists.com – and blog is out there too but please don’t let this bias you. I’m open to a complete re-design. I’m including as much as possible about me to help with a new design….
My target audience is a bit older clientele…working professionals…as these are people that connect with me. I’m both creative and anal. I have a background in Computer Science but love the creative arts. I’m both left and right brained.
I love life and am passionate about living. I survived cancer at the age of 30. Bright colored flowers make me happy. I prefer working at home in my PJs. I love the slogan “life is good”.
Top 5 values that define me: driven/determined, accomplishment, financial security, risk-taking, love.
I’m sassy. I’m a motivator. I’m a workaholic and a multi-tasker.
I created an idea board to share. I am NOT flashy. I like clean and under-stated. I love bright colors, but as accents to neutral earth tones. Splashes of color enhance a mood (as in a room). I like high contrast and texture. Modern shapes – circles, stripes, squares, polka dots, etc. but again as enhancements to a neutral stage. My personal home is in tones shared within this board. Each room in neutral but with a different color that splashes it up.
Not sure how to attach image, can be found here: http://www.polyvore.com/jennifers_style_files/set?id=6416210
Please NO use of cameras, lenses, tripods, etc.
Stores/Catalogs I love include Pottery Barn, West Elm, Wisteria, Real Simple magazine.
I want my clientele to see my my brand and new website and see more of “me” reflected in the style. Classy, under-stated, but fun and sassy. NOT busy. Clean.

So far, many of the logos are coming across very masculine. They lack the “Passion” and “Life” that I envision. And I’m not sure where some of the colors are coming from. Please look at the style/idea board I posted a link to above. I see colors in a neutral palette, such as brown or white with the use of turquoise as primary with accents of light blue and lime greens. How the brighter colors fit in – I’m not sure – I’m open to ideas.

I’ve tried to comment on most of the entries out there so far. Many of you have some great concepts. I’m not loving any particular one yet..but have seen some i really like where it’s going. I especially like when you can tell me why you’re doing what you’re doing. I’m gravitating towards those that either are creating a symbol to go with the name, or those that are playing around with the initials to go with the name. I can see using a symbol/initial as a watermark on images.

Great ideas are flowing. I’ve seen a variety of concepts and I’m open to each. So far I’m gravitating towards the use of a flower…and with the use of the initials MJ, along with it spelled out too, or some other symbol along with the text. I foresee the symbol being used as my watermark on images. See my existing use of how I watermark images to understand how a symbol can best be used: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/KCjrGwLCiOk/SUHv8FxyHAI/AAAAAAAAEho/tgAgPAVphGs/s1600-h/DSC7967.jpg

Here are a few that have caught my eye – in no particular order. I’ve asked for various changes to each – but there were reasons in each why they caught my attention:

Wow I can’t believe how many logos have been posted! Thank you to everyone! I’ve narrowed it down again to those that I like (or still like) – and there are a few not listed that I’ve asked for a few changes…
