the perfection in its brevity.. you just can’t find any fault with it !!

Any idea how much she was paid? I know the apple logo for Apple only netted the artist $10,000.00.

Ok. I think Ms Davidson got paid around 35 bucks when she designed it back in the 70s. The owner of Nike have since compensated her with Nike bling bling jewellery as well as Nike shares. Not bad for a tick!

Did any one know that the original designer of this logo got only $30 for it? :)

While the logo itself is nothing great, the concept behind it is phenomenal. You can’t truly appreciate it without an understanding of what it means and how the nike philosophy changed the entire industry. It is indeed special even if it doesn’t look so.

The Nike Branding is quite remarkable, humble beginnings, and now a global icon. Long live Nike, the clothing is good too :)

Definitely gets my tick of approval:) It is the single greatest icon of our times and it is instantly recognizable in any country in the world, due partly to some fantastic branding. From the humble beginnings this company started from to where they are now is truly mind-blowing. Carolyn is one clever cookie and very wealth now.

dynamic in itself • maybe the simplest logo with the best branding (but nearly nothing without, just generally dynamic.) and likely the cheapest at all even acquired for global market and bold published with a multi-million-budget, too. • i have never understood why they call it ‘swoosh’ and who the young goddess’s wings are… -?

logo, itself is not so perfect or amazing, i think that Nike made it special the success of Nike did it, i wonder if we saw this logo with a random or a small company, could we say the whole same things for the logo? i dont think so..
by LEP over 3 years ago.
I’m with MG, if it were a small company it would be nothing. Try making a logo that simple for a competition on here, bet you don’t win. It’s the success of Nike that makes that icon so great, not the icon itself.

Agree with MG & LEP and would like to add a bit phallic. nothing like an right facing 45 degree angle line. Not to be crass or anything, just my impression

idunno about greatest symbol ever, I’ve always thought the old Minolta logo was perfect (http://www.logodesignlove.com/all-about-saul-bass)..
..but this is absolutely the visual essence of what they try to represent. it’s a perfect mark for their identity. it is absolutely successful and hasn’t needed a re-brand or re-design in almost 40 years.
It is by no means old fashioned, dull, or boring. The swoosh can be white on black, black on white, red on anything, etc., and denotes movement, speed, and precision to nearly everyone in the world.

=©.®= cant see a reply to your question but as I understand it the logo is based on the greek god Nike. To quote wikipedia “She is known as the Winged Goddess of Victor” hence the logo is supposed to be a representation of her wing (I think).
It’s a good logo, simple, solid idea which has now been become one, if not the most recognised logos in the world.
If as a client I saw it for the first time today and had the idea behind explained to me Id say its a good logo but I prefer simple iconic symbols the whole web 2.0 look. The trouble is its got so many other meanings now, globalisation & slave labour amongst them, you could never judge it purely on how its looks.

I wonder if this was a logo for a warehouse company in Houston Tx if people would be so gushing about it. I think its the whole package of lifestyle and imagery of their ads. If they stop running ads this logo will go into the clip art folder of history. But it is very very versatile and brandable – great for branding,

i just wonder if nike never had this logo before and had a competition on here… and if someone wud put that logo today… dont think it wud win… :)

The tick – what more can you say.
